Selecting the Type of Reunion
Most reunions can be broken into two
basic types a one day event like a picnic or barbecue or a longer weekend
event.
PICNIC or BBQ
Now a one-day picnic or barbecue type
of event is the easier way to go when organizing your first reunion.
There's less planning and work with a one-day event compared to a weekend
event. A picnic event usually draws family from relatively short distances
away. In most cases, people tend not to stay overnight and perhaps
if they do, they stay at the home of the host family. So usually, if
you have relatives living long distances away, they may not be able
to event a single day event.
WEEKEND EVENT
A weekend event is a much more involved affair. Multiple events and activities
must be planned. Lodging has to be dealt with and more travel arrangements need
to be made. In addition, there are a lot more activities to plan and be responsible
for to fill an entire weekend. We will address this in more depth later in this
publication.
Selecting a Location
This is something the committee should decide based on opinions collected from the family survey and polling that was done initially. Should it be where most of the family currently resides? A big city?
The original family hometown? Or somewhere in between? This is for the committee to decide. |
